About this test

About the English Consonant Sounds Pronunciation Test (C2 Proficiency)

English has twenty four consonant sounds, and several do not exist in many other languages, such as the two TH sounds, the English R and the W. Others, like V and B or L and R, are easy to mix. This test spreads the most difficult consonants across ten sentences, so you can see at a glance which ones need extra work.

Why practise this at C2 level

At C2 the aim is effortless, near-native clarity. These proficiency sentences pack difficult sounds into fast, dense phrases, many of them close to tongue twisters, so even confident speakers find out what still needs work.

How to get it right

  • Check which consonant your red words share
  • Watch your lips and tongue in a mirror
  • Use voice for voiced sounds such as V, Z and the TH in this
