Articoli in Inglese: A, An, The — Perché Sbagli Ancora?

Con A (suono consonantico)Con AN (suono vocalico)
a bookan apple
a universityan hour
a European countryan umbrella
a one-way ticketan honest person

“I bought a car. The car is red” — la prima volta è generica (a car), la seconda è specifica perché già conosciuta (the car).

  • Concetti generali e plurali generici: “I love music” (non “the music”), “Dogs are loyal” (non “The dogs”).

Domande Frequenti sugli Articoli in Inglese

Come scelgo tra a e an?

Quando devo usare “the” in inglese?

No, i concetti generali e i plurali generici non prendono articolo in inglese: “I love music”, non “the music”.

Si dice “I speak the Italian” o “I speak Italian”?

No, i nomi di lingue non prendono mai l’articolo: “I speak Italian”, non “the Italian”.

I nomi di paesi prendono l’articolo in inglese?

No, la maggior parte dei nomi di paesi non prende articolo: “I live in Italy”, non “the Italy”. Alcune eccezioni esistono, come “the Netherlands” o “the United States”.

No, si usa per pasti generici: “We had breakfast”.

Gli aggettivi superlativi richiedono sempre “the”?

Sì: gli aggettivi superlativi (the best, the most important) richiedono sempre “the”, perché indicano qualcosa di unico nel suo genere.
