π When Do We Use “There Is” and “There Are”?
π “There is” β Used for singular nouns (one thing).
π “There are” β Used for plural nouns (more than one thing).
β Examples:
- “There is a book on the table.” (One book)
- “There are two chairs in the room.” (Two chairs)
π How to Use “There Is” and “There Are”
Type | Sentence | Example |
---|---|---|
β Singular (1 thing) | There is + a/an + noun | There is a cat in the house. |
β Plural (2+ things) | There are + number + noun | There are three books on the table. |
β Negative | There isn’t / There arenβt | There isnβt a TV in my room. / There arenβt any apples in the fridge. |
β Question | Is there…? / Are there…? | Is there a park near here? / Are there any chairs in the room? |
