📘 What is “Would Like”?
We use “would like” to say what we want in a nice and polite way. It’s more gentle than saying “I want.”
✅ Structure
Subject + would like + noun OR to + verb
I would like a coffee. (with a noun)
I would like to eat lunch. (with a verb)
✅ Positive Sentences
We often shorten “would like” to “‘d like”.
I would like a glass of water.
She ‘d like to watch a movie.
We ‘d like some rest.
🎯 When to Use “Would Like”
- Polite Offers: “Would you like some tea?”
- Polite Requests: “I’d like to speak to the manager.”
- Expressing Wants: “We’d like a table for two.”
❓ Questions with “Would Like”
To ask a question, put “Would” at the beginning.
Would + subject + like + …?
Would you like a drink?
Would she like to join us?
Would they like some help?
❌ Negative Sentences & Short Answers
To make it negative, use “would not” or the short form “wouldn’t”.
I wouldn’t like to go outside.
He would not like a cold meal.
💡 Short Answers
To answer a “Would you like…?” question:
Yes, I would.
No, I wouldn’t.
