Going to a Comedy Show English Pronunciation Test
Take the free Going to a Comedy Show English Pronunciation Test: read ten natural sentences about a funny evening aloud and see every unclear word in red.
Start the testTest T and D in time, day, water and hard, including the soft American T in words like better. This version uses B1 sentences: natural, connected speech at intermediate level.
T and D are made with the tongue tip on the ridge just behind the top teeth, not on the teeth themselves. T is voiceless with a puff of air; D is voiced. In American English, a T between vowels often becomes a quick, soft D-like tap, so water sounds like wadder. Learners often place the tongue on the teeth, making the sounds too soft.
At B1 you speak in full sentences, and sounds start to change when words join together. These intermediate sentences make you keep the sound clear at a natural speed, which is exactly what people notice in a real conversation.
Placing the tongue on the teeth, which makes T and D sound dental
Mixing them at the end of words, so hard sounds like heart
Dropping T and D in clusters such as next and world
Using a hard T in American words like water and city
Each sentence trains one sound. The orange label above the sentence tells you which one.

The temperature was often well below minus twenty degrees.
My little brother tried too, but he got very frustrated.
