B1: Reading Skills – Brave Boy Defeats Evil Vampire Khema

The Brave Boy and the Vampire
In a farm surrounded by dark forests, there lived a bright boy named Johannes. He was not like other children – his intelligent mind and brave heart made him special. But danger lurked in the shadows…
The farm was being hunted by Khema, a vampire with red eyes as big as moons. He had lost his baby vampires and now terrorising the village, destroying everything in his path. One by one, Johannes’ neighbors disappeared until only his beloved grandmother Nora remained.
“You must leave, my child!” insisted Grandma Nora, her wrinkled hands shaking. But Johannes refused. “I’m not afraid,” he said, though his voice trembled like leaves in the wind.
Before leaving, Grandma Nora gave Johannes a routine: “If you hear ‘Johannes, Johannes, Johannes my poor, is Nora your kind granny’ – open the door. But if the voice sounds strange, don’t!”
Days passed like creeping shadows. Then one night, a heavy voice called: “Johannes, Johannes, Johannes my poor, is Nora your kind granny?” Johannes froze. The voice was like stones grinding together. “I know you, Khema!” he shouted. The vampire hissed angrily.
Khema wasn’t done. He found a bamboo stick in the forest, heated it until glowing red, and pressed it to his throat. Now his voice was perfect! He returned and called sweetly. Fooled, Johannes opened the door – WHOOSH! In a flash, Khema threw him into a sack!
The vampire carried Johannes to his wooden house and threw him into a big cooking pot. “Tonight I feast!” Khema laughed, locking the door as he went to gather wood.
But Johannes was smart. He kicked the pot lid – BAM! BAM! BAM! On the last kick – WHAMM! – it flew open! He escaped and ran to a nearby bush where wild bees lived. Carefully, he collected the angry bees in the pot and hid.
When Khema returned, he lifted the lid without looking – ZZZZZZ! Hundreds of bees attacked! “AAAAH!” The vampire screamed, rolling down the hill as bees stung him mercilessly. He never returned.
When Grandma Nora visited weeks later, she found Johannes safe. “You clever boy!” she said proudly, hugging him tight. And from that day, the farm was peaceful again, with only the buzzing of bees to remind them of the brave boy who outsmarted a vampire.
