The Typhoon Queen's Wrath
In a quiet village in Limpopo, South Africa, there was a story that frightened everyone. People spoke of a powerful creature, the Typhoon Queen, who looked like a mermaid but with greyish skin and sharp teeth. She lived near a river and guarded her nest of eggs. When the Typhoon Queen was angry, she could cause terrible storms and typhoons. Many years ago, she released her wrath, and since then, everyone was afraid to go near her home. There was even a big white stone near the river that read: "Do Not Disturb."
Johannes and his friend Jan were curious. They wanted to know if the stories were true. One day, they sneaked to the riverbank to see for themselves. As they got closer, a cold wind blew, and their hair stood on end. But they ignored it and kept going. Soon, they saw something amazing—huge eggs, like those of an ostrich. Johannes picked one up, excited. "Look, Jan! We found something special!" he said, happy and proud.
They didn't know these were the Typhoon Queen's eggs. While they were gone, the Queen returned and saw her nest destroyed. She became furious. Her eyes turned blue with rage, and she let out a terrible scream. Dark clouds filled the sky, and the wind howled like a monster. The villagers of Limpopo were terrified. Lightning struck, and fires broke out. The wind was so strong that it lifted houses and trees. The rain poured so heavily that the whole village flooded. People climbed trees and hills to escape, but many could not survive the storm.
Johannes and Jan, unaware of the trouble they caused, watched as the storm destroyed their home. An elder named Granny Ennie gathered the villagers and shouted to the Typhoon Queen, begging for mercy. When the boys heard Granny talk about the stolen eggs, they realized their mistake. Johannes and Jan quickly told Granny where the eggs were hidden. They retrieved the eggs and placed them back at the riverbank.
As soon as the eggs were returned, the Typhoon Queen calmed down. The storm stopped, and a rainbow appeared in the sky. Granny Ennie turned to the boys and said, "Young people must learn to listen. Your actions have consequences."
